Why does it need accessibility permission?

The gate intercepts when one of the apps you've chosen to gate comes to the foreground. The accessibility service is what tells us "the user just opened Instagram." We only inspect package names; we never read screen content, type for you, or interact with any app on your behalf.

If you turn the permission off, the gate goes silent. The app will notice and remind you.

Where is my data stored?

On your phone, in an encrypted Room database. Nothing leaves your device unless you explicitly turn on Cloud AI (off by default) or share an export. See the privacy policy for the full breakdown.

How do I cancel my subscription?

From Settings -> Subscription -> Manage on Play Store. Or directly on the Play Store: Profile -> Payments & subscriptions -> Subscriptions -> Gratitude Gate -> Cancel.

Cancellation is processed by Google Play. Premium features stay active through the end of your current billing period.

I bought Lifetime Pass but it isn't showing on my new device.

Open Settings -> Subscription -> Restore Purchases. The app re-queries Play for your purchase history and grants the entitlement. Make sure you're signed into the same Google account that made the original purchase.

The gate isn't appearing when I open the gated app.

Most often this is an accessibility permission that got turned off (system update, factory-reset memory clear, OEM battery-saver settings). Open the app and check Settings -> Permissions. The status row tells you exactly which permission is missing.

On Xiaomi, OnePlus, and some Samsung devices, also look for "Battery -> Background activity" or "Auto-launch" toggles in system settings. These can kill the accessibility service after a screen-off period.

I'm locked out and want to bypass it.

You can. The lock is a commitment to yourself, not a security wall. Open Settings -> Cancel lock. Strict mode does extend the lock if you repeatedly try to bypass it during the protected window, but a clean cancel from Settings always works.

How do I export or delete my entries?

From Settings: "Export journal" sends a plain-text file via Android's share sheet. "Erase everything and start over" removes every entry, attempt, achievement, and rule from the device. Uninstalling the app also removes everything.

What's a "Presence Chain" exactly?

A day counts toward your chain if EITHER you logged a gratitude reflection OR you didn't reach for any of your gated apps that day. Both count. Milestones fire at 3, 7, 14, 30, 60, 100, 200, and 365 days.
